Overview
Skills Observation Tracking in Craft Connect is designed to help programs document and evaluate learner skill development in real-world workplace settings. Learners can request evaluations for specific skills, while evaluators provide structured feedback and scoring based on configurable assessment criteria. Administrators can organize skills into categories, set repeatable competency requirements, customize scoring scales and target thresholds, and collect additional program-specific data during observations. With real-time visibility into learner progress and automated monitoring of hands-on skill mastery, this feature replaces manual tracking methods and supports program standards and accreditation needs.

Setting Up Skills Observation Tracking
Step 1: From the Program Overview page, click + Add Skills Observation Tracking.
Step 2: A popup window will appear. Click Next. From here, you can create categories (optional), create a skills list, set up a scoring method, add customer fields, and enable pre-approval.
Creating Categories
Step 3 (Optional): Categories can help you organize your skills or tasks into specific groups. These are an optional organizational component. Click + Add Category and then type the name of your desired category into the populated field. To add another category, click + Add Category again.
Creating a Skills List
Step 4: Click + Add Skill to create a Skills List. A minimum of one skill is required. You can choose to have this skill be repeatable and can indicate the minimum successful attempts the learner must accomplish. To add additional skills, click + Add Skill again.
Setting Up a Scoring Method
Step 5: Next, choose how learners will be scored on their skill. You can choose a pass/fail system, a scoring system of 1-3, 1-4, or 1-5. You can also indicate a target score.
Adding Custom Fields
Step 6 (Optional): Use custom fields to collect extra details from your learners that support your program tracking and reporting. (i.e. rotations, training sites, etc.) Click + Add Custom Field to create a custom field. Then, enter your desired drop down options.
Pre-Approval
Step 7 (Optional): Enable this setting if learners need approval before practicing a skill. If you turn this feature on, you will also need to complete the Unlocking Skills section of this article. Please note that once Pre-Approval is enabled, it cannot be turned off and will remain active for your program. We recommend only enabling this feature if it is required for your program.
Finalizing Skills Observation Tracking
Step 8: When you are finished, click Save to finalize your selections and to enable this feature for your learners and evaluators.
Unlocking Skills (Only Required if Pre-Approval is Selected)
If Pre-Approval has been turned on, you will need to unlock skills for your learners individually before they can request a skill observation, and before evaluators and admins can perform observations. To do so, follow the steps below:
Step 1: Navigate to the Assigned Learners tab. Click the three dots to the right of the learner you wish to unlock skills for, then click View Program.
Step 2: From the Skills Observation Tracking module, tab over to Locked to unlock a skill for a learner.
