Overview
Rubrics are powerful tools that provide clarity and structure to your learning journey, helping you understand how your performance is assessed and where you can improve. Whether you're working on job-embedded activities or coursework, rubrics ensure fair and transparent evaluation.
What is a Rubric?
A rubric is a scoring guide used to evaluate your work. It outlines specific criteria, such as the skills or knowledge being assessed, and defines levels of achievement for each criterion. This system allows evaluators to provide detailed feedback and helps you focus on what matters most for your success.
Components of a Rubric
- Criterion: These are the skills or knowledge areas you will be assessed on. For example, "Problem-Solving Skills" or "Professional Communication."
- Ratings: Rubrics typically have a range of achievement levels. These could range from "Basic" to "Exemplary" or use numeric scores like 1 to 5.
- Descriptors: For each level, a detailed description explains what is required. This helps you understand what to aim for to achieve the highest score.
How to View a Rubric as a Learner
Step 1: On your desired activity, you will see a banner displaying your assigned rubric. Click the banner to view the rubric criteria.
Step 2: Review the rubric and its criteria to view the framework in which your activity will be graded.
From there, you can proceed to submit your activity as normal. For information on how to submit an activity, please see this article.
Understanding Target Ratings
At times, your administrator may set a target rating to your rubric. These targets are visible to both Learners and Evaluators, providing greater clarity on performance expectations. If a target rating is set, you will see it listed to the right of your rubric.
Viewing your Scores
Once your Evaluator has reviewed your activity, you can return to the activity to view your score. It will appear in the History section at the bottom of your activity. If there are multiple criterion associated with your rubric, this section will display an average.
