Overview
Craft's OJL Tracker allows you to seamlessly integrate activities into Canvas. This guide will walk you through the steps of assigning a Craft OJL Tracker activity to your students in Canvas.
Pre-Integration
To begin, the Canvas integration must first be configured by your Canvas admin as an External Tool option. Please contact us at support@crafteducation.com if you are interested in integrating your OJL Tracker and Canvas accounts.
Craft Admin: Setting up Canvas Integration in the OJL Tracker
Create and Assign Instructors
Step 1: As a OJL Tracker Admin, create your instructors' accounts using the same email address used for their Canvas account.
Step 2: Next, assign your instructors to the plans of the activities that they will assign in Canvas.
Create and Assign Learners
Step 3: Create learners in the OJL Tracker using the same email address as the one used in Canvas.
Step 4: Next, you will assign programs and evaluators as usual.
Step 5: Invite Users to Craft, if applicable
Ensure that you have assigned students to the relevant content in the OJL Tracker. All OJL Tracker activities that will be referenced in a Canvas assignment must be assigned in Craft's OJL Tracker before they will appear in Canvas.
Instructors: Creating OJL Tracker Assignments in Canvas
Step 1: Create a new Canvas Assignment
- Log into your Canvas course and select the + Assignment button.
Step 2: Find the CraftConnect External Tool
- Within the assignment's settings, scroll down to “Submission Type” and select the "External Tool"
- Locate the Craft Connect tool and select it.
Step 3: Select the Desired Activity
- You can either browse through the available OJL Tracker activities or paste a direct link into the provided field.
- Choose the activity you want to assign from the list.
- Click "Continue" and then "Select" to add the activity to your assignment.
- Note: Do not select the "Load This Tool In A New Tab" checkbox. The OJL Tracker activity will appear embedded in an iframe.
Step 4: Customize the Assignment (Optional)
- You can add a title (1) description (2), grading criteria, or any other relevant information to the assignment.
- As an instructor, you will be able to see the embedded OJL Tracker activity (3) with a link to open the activity in a new tab (4) should you need to update the activity.
Step 5: Save and Publish
- Save the assignment to finalize the changes.
- Make sure to publish the assignment so that students can access it.
Each instructor will need to do this for each OJL Tracker Activity.
Learner Experience
When students access the assignment, they will see the linked OJL Tracker activity. Please note: They may need to accept the Craft's policy if it's their first time using the tool.
Students can complete the activity directly within Canvas, without needing to log into Craft's OJL Tracker separately.
The Learner must be assigned to the content within Craft's OJL Tracker for the content to be viewable in Canvas.
Instructor: How to Evaluate an OJL Tracker submission in Canvas
- After students submit their activities, you can review them in SpeedGrader.
- IMPORTANT: We recommend waiting until the onsite evaluator approves the activity to know when it has been completed. The evaluator's comments, scores, and attachments will appear in the History feed below the main section of the activity. You can then use this feedback to complete the assessment within SpeedGrader.
- You can evaluate the student's work and assign a grade.
- If a student hasn't submitted the activity, it might be because they haven't accessed the assignment yet.
- Activities can be in different states (unsubmitted, pending approval, returned, or approved) depending on what action the learner or evaluator has taken on it.

Troubleshooting Tips
An instructor does not see Craft Connect as an option on their External Tools
- Contact your Canvas Admin or us at support@crafteducation.com. The integration must be set up before it is available to use from the External Tool option
A learner is seeing the following error message
- The learner does not have an account in Craft's OJL Tracker
- The learner's Canvas email does not match their OJL Tracker email

As an instructor, I click on Craft Connect from the External Tools option, but I get an error message

- The instructor's Canvas email does not match their OJL Tracker email
As an instructor, I don't see the activity I'm looking for OR any options when browsing for an activity to select
- The instructor is not assigned to a plan
As an instructor, I tried to update a previously created Canvas assignment's submission type to External Tool and I'm not seeing the embedded OJL Tracker activity in SpeedGrader.
- The student has previously submitted an assignment as a file upload or other format so Canvas saves that submission and does not update to the External Tool Option
- You must create a new Canvas Assignment.
As an instructor, I used to be able to see my student's OJL Tracker activity in SpeedGrader, but now it is not showing.
- Check that the course dates in Canvas have not ended. Once the course date is past, the OJL Tracker can no longer receive or pass back information to Canvas.
