Credit Hours
Q: Does the amount of time it takes me to complete an activity (whether shorter or longer) affect the potential number of credit hours earned?
A: We believe that you deserve credit for what you know, not how long it took you to learn it. The duration function serves two purposes:
First, we like working with high-quality colleges and universities that allow learners to move forward when you can demonstrate “competency” rather than showing how much time on task was performed. This competency-based approach is newer, however, and some institutions still rely largely on clock or credit hours. So stating the expected number of hours an activity takes and how many hours it actually took will help the college or university determine the number of eligible credit hours.
Second, specifying the time required to complete each activity provides two benefits. First, employers can make a more precise connection between the time spent and the skills learned. Second, institutions can better match the job-embedded work to their curriculum for credit allocation.
Third, workforce boards and other local, state and federal agencies who provide funding for apprenticeship programs often require time-bound information as part of their approval process.
Using Craft's OJL Tracker is the most efficient way to capture every bit of knowledge that can earn you credit, regardless of whether a time-based or competency-based approach is used.
Q: Will these credits transfer to another university?
A: Every university decides which credits will meet their unique requirements. At Craft, we partner with accredited institutions to provide the potential for your job-embedded work to result in accepted credits toward a possible degree. Getting you credit toward a degree in a relevant field of study for every bit of your knowledge and ability is our goal. Although we can't guarantee how much credit a college or university will award for your job-embedded work, our system simplifies the process for them to make a positive decision and accurately determine the appropriate credit amount. Dedication to students is also why we try to work with high-quality colleges and universities that value work-based learning and are most likely to accept it for credit.
Q: How long will my information be stored at Craft? What if I take a semester or two off and restart?
A: We'll store your data securely while you're away and, when you restart, your information will be available to pick-up where you left off. The duration of time your data will be stored at Craft depends on your employer's/educator's data governance policy.
Q: How does my organization’s tuition assistance work with Craft’s product?
A: At this time, there are no costs associated with using Craft's OJL Tracker. While every university gets to decide on its own whether to accept prior learning or job-embedded work for credit, as well as their own requirements to earn a degree, at Craft, our goal is to work with institutions that understand the value of Craft's OJL Tracker, which is provided at no cost to students.
